London
We began our cruise with an overnight at the Landmark Hotel, a recently remodeled Victorian era hotel next to the Marlybone Station. It was a lovely hotel, but the food prices were ridiculous so I took a walk to find a grocery. There was a Tesco (parent of Fresh and Easy) and I as able to buy dinner including beers for less than the price of one appetizer at the hotel! We tried to take a walk, but Mom was too tired after the long airplane trip.
We had breakfast at the hotel (it was included) and then disaster struck. I took Mom out the back/front door of the hotel so she could see the train station (where we could have eaten cheaply) and she fell smack on her face having trip on a raised piece of side walk. We spent the morning at St. Mary's Hospital where she was checked out. Luckily there were no broken bones, but she was a mess for all of the cruise. We missed the buses to the ship, so the cruise line provided a private care from London to Southampton and we arrived just shortly before the ship set sail.
